Activities of Food Technology Department of DAV College Jalandhar from March 2001 to 2006
In Year 2001 Seminar was organized on the topic “Role of Food Technology in New Millennium” was Resource Person stressed on the point that Raw Food needs to have value addition so as to increase its nutrition & shelf life. Food Technology plays a prominent role in New Millennium in ensuring food security.
In Year 2002 our department organized a seminar on “Processed Food Status and Needs”. The resource persons for this were:
(a) Prof. Narpinder Singh- Head, Deptt. Of Food Science & Technology, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.
(b) Prof. F.C. Shukla – Prof., Deptt. Of Food Sc. & Tech., PAU, Ludhiana.
This seminar was sponsored by “Metro Milk Food Ltd.”, Jalandhar.
Resource Persons emphasized there is a need to increase the processing of food material due to changes in social economic culture increase in nuclear families and both partners are working. Processed food industry can generate employment for 4 crore people and reduce the wastage of food products.
In year 2004, a seminar was organized on “Food Biotechnology”. The resource persons were:
(a) Dr. Amarjeet Kaur from Deptt. Of Food Sc. & Tech., PAU, Ludhiana
(b) Dr. Poonam from Deptt. Of Food Sc. & Tech., PAU, Ludhiana
4. Resource persons stressed that food biotechnology is going to play crucial role in fighting food insecurity malnutrition and production of functional foods.
